A few days before my heart attack I had this very funny dream with my beloved grandma. Lola Lily as we call her, was a vibrant and ever caring grandma. It was 8 years since she passed and I missed her dearly. She appeared in my dream dressed in her favorite blouse, she looked young and her face was full of color, I felt that she was truly alive. I was lying on the bed when suddenly she held both of my feet and told me that "you are next". I was terrified upon hearing what she said and in surprise I told her in reply that I don't wanna go just yet, I have so much still to do so please not now, maybe next time, I told her. Sweat all over my face when I woke up.Horrible dream I thought. And a few days later I had a heart attack that was when I remembered my dream.
Anyway, after having been released from the hospital, I was faced with a task of taking 8 to 9 pills a day.
I lost weight abruptly, I did not feel like eating during the first 2 weeks. The side effects of the pills I took is so much for me to handle. I was no longer productive, I just spent most of my time reading. It was after a month when I finally got immune to the adverse effects of different kinds of medications.
It was when I entered the wrong password of my email when I realized that my what used to be very sharp memory was now degrading, three more attempts but still it proved impossible for me to recollect my memory. I made another email and brushed the idea that I am suffering form early signs of dementia. This episode has been repeated many more times over, until this very day while I am writing this article. What might have been the cause? Is it inherited from my folks? or is it due to the bad effects of taking so much medicines?
This questions eventually led me to so many answers; and yes it is clinically possible that the reason for my early memory loss is maybe due to the pills I take daily, somehow it made my synapses and brain neurons inactive. I have been taking sleeping pills and anti anxiety pills before and that too contributed with my degrading memory loss. I also have undergone two minor operations under anesthesia, also a triggering factor that maybe impaired my memory.
Stress is also one of the most blamed reason for having an impaired memory. Very common to people who are already in their 40's, 50's or more not on a very hopeful young adult like me.
Technology and social media in particular plays a very big role in the big decline of good memory not only on my case but also to hundreds or thousands of young adults who have been fallen victim to the advances of technology. Before the invention of the internet, people are forced to read the information that they want to know from books, but now with just a few taps on the keyboard very instantly the information that we would like to know just pops up in our screens and very often we just select the section with the most satisfying answer to our query without reading the entire write up.
Research reveals that there are a lot of contributing factors we can blame.
Memory loss will strike no matter what your age maybe. In my case I cannot stop my medications as it is very vital to keep me alive. I would probably read more to hasten my memory, or maybe help my grandpa with his daily computations with the combinations of our daily 3 digit lottery.
I highly suggest that we eat the right amount of food, adequate rest and by being stress free. It also helps to smile and to pray.
As with my dream I finally decided to brush it off, its just a dream and my time is yet to come.
END
My memory is fast degrading, I find it hard to organize my thoughts.
Now, November of 2014 months after I wrote this article; I have noticed that my ability to create sentences in my head quickly has also been altered, most of the time I tend to forget what I want to say.
